"I trust the weather buoys with my life thank you."
-Maine Fisherman
"I am a lobster fisherman out of Beals Island, Maine. I use and rely on the buoy data readings on a daily basis during spring, summer, and fall. I check in the winter mostly out of curiosity. I don't feel that I would be helpful in a GoMOOS user panel because I really only use the buoy data feature."
-Fisherman
"I have completed this survey for my husband, a lobsterman. He learned how to use the computer and go online so that he could check the weather and buoy information provided by GoMOOS. Now, when he gets up at 4 am, he fixes a cup of tea and sits down at the computer to check GoMOOS to find out whether it's a fishing day and what the conditions will be like. "
-Fisherman
"Hi there. I am a lobster fisherman from South West Nova Scotia. Our season starts the last Monday of November, and ends the last day of May. Needless to say we fish in some of the worst weather conditions Mother Nature dishes out. Your L01 buoy off the Scotian Shelf has been a godsend for myself and hundreds of fishermen who fish this very lucrative area; as it gives us real-time data regarding the conditions we will be facing if we decide to go fishing. There have been numerous times we have stayed ashore, because after checking "the buoy", we instantly knew it would be too dangerous a venture. Conversely there have been times when the conditions were unfavorable on land, but after checking the buoy, we knew it would be tolerable on our fishing grounds. To close I would like to thank you all for your efforts, and I would like you to know that information you are providing us not only aids us in our work, it almost certainly has saved lives. "
-Roy Atkinson, Fisherman
"Our business is high-seas commercial fishing but I like to keep track of what's happening weather and ocean-wise for the coastal fleet. GoMOOS is a valuable resource for weather tracking and determining whether a vessel should venture out beyond a certain point. Also, all stations that gather weather data are valuable. Thanks for the service!"
-Fisherman
"This site is a great help for wind conditions and water temp data. It would be a tremendous loss if this service was discontinued."
-Fisherman
"I am a lobsterman who fishes out of Spruce HEAD HARBOR, ME. I use the Matinicus Rock weather report daily and many other fisherman in this area do the same. The computer is not my best friend most of the time, but this web site is pretty easy and very usefull to me and my business. I am willing to help in any way I can. Thank You."
-Kyle Godin, Captain F/V JESTER
"Very important info for Nova Scotia lobster fishing. "
-Fisherman
"As a commercial fisherman I find the GoMOOS data extremely valuable."
-Fisherman
"The best weather site GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
-Fisherman
"Love the web site, I use it before I go out saltwater fishing. Great information!"
-Recreational Fisherman
"GoMOOS provides invaluable info that I use to determine whether or not to go out on the ocean. I use it to help plan areas to fish and overall planning of the trip on every outing. I think that there are many recreational boaters who use this site to collect data from buoys, and those boaters that don't are probably unaware of your website and would definitely use it if they did. Keep up the hard work!"
-Fisherman
"Saves time do not have to listen to the whole forecast on the weather box to get the wind at the buoys before lobstering."
-Fisherman
"This site is a great value to me, I am a full time commercial inshore/offshore lobster fisherman, i use the data from the buoys to determine how i run my business, so keep the site up it is great!!!!"

"Love your service. The dial a buoy feature is very useful when I don't have access to a computer. I believe your service is a lifesaver. Thanks!"
-Dave, Pilot
"This site is very helpful with looking at current wave and sea conditions for the whale watching season in the Gulf of Maine."
-Pilot
"I work at the Maine State Ferry terminal. We routinely print the current marine forecasts to let our passengers see what to expect. The Matinicus Rock Station and (F) buoy are closest to us, and provides the best glimpse as to what we are getting at any particular time. It is very useful to us."
-Mariner
"As the caretaker of the one private residence on Great Duck Island, I find your service invaluable! Additionally, operating the MDI Water Taxi and renting out several boats—power & sail—I find your service most helpful. Thanks very much for the fine service you've created!"
-Wes Shaw, Pilot
"Please keep up the good work. Your info gives us a heads up on sea conditions."
-Pilot
"I was in the windjammer business and now mostly do recreational sailing. would you ever develop a way to call up the buoy data on a cell phone? Keep up the good work."
-Pilot
"I use your daily forecast in planning my work day. I find you are highly accurate."
-Charter Boat Captain
"This information is very important to my line of work; Search and Rescue training."
-US Coast Guard
"I particulaly appreciate wave height & period as I captain a charter sail boat. Thank you."
-Charter Boat Captain
"This web site is outstanding and the real time buoy data is extremely important to may passage planning as a coastal tug boat captain and harbor pilot in the port of Portsmouth, NH. Since I have been using this site I have also told many of my friends and other mariners, mostly commercial fisherman, who all say it is an outstanding resource. The only thing I would recommend is is you could convince your colleagues to put a data buoy with wind and sea condition info at the east end of the Cape Cod Canal. I know that many mariners gamble on the weather in this confined area. After the recent Buzzards Bay oil spill and the amount of petroleum products that transit this area, it would be cheap insurance for safety. Many thanks to the individuals and teams that bring this information to us. Keep up the good work and fostering it growth."

"GoMOOS is a great site with valuable information. I am an avid surfer (as well as skier) and use the site often to determine what the surf will be like as well as when to go and where. In addition to outdoor interests I have a keen interest in oceanography and meteorology so I find the site interesting. Thanx."
-Surfer
"I have been using GoMoos for like 4 years now and i find the data that is shows to be extremely valuable when determining where to go surfing or kayaking. Also it is good when taking a day at the beach out of the surf so i know where the wind is and the currents are heading. So i know where to go for the most enjoyable spot. Also I have been using the graphing tool recently a lot to help me plan a trip focusing on surfing."
-Surfer
"I’ve noticed that some other buoy data sites offer buoys that track mean swell direction? It would be nice to have that for the Gulf of Maine. Overall, i know there is a large community that use this site. Keep up the good work."
-Surfer
"The buoy reports are an asset to every windsurfer I know in the area - we can see when a forecast is actually starting to pan out and head to the nearest landfall to launch."
-Windsurfer
"Being a surfer and living 30 minutes from the coast, the GoMOOS buoys allow me to gain a fairly accurate mental picture of surf conditions before I decide whether or not to make the trip. If surf isn't up, I don't waste time, money, or fuel just finding out that its the Atlantic Lake that day."

"I just recently started looking at the current direction and velocity data, it could be very useful for the Maine trawl survey. I have used the buoy reports for decision making for conducting the trawl survey, I find them extremely useful in deciding whether to sail or not."
-Research Scientist
"The GoMOOS web page has been extremely useful for our business over the past several years, as we have clients on and around the Bay of Fundy. Having the stations listed on a map, allows us quick access to data essential to our understanding of the situation across the Bay."
-Meteorologist
"Great web Site. I am currently trying to predict the next snow storm for eastern Maine from the gulf of Maine water temps, wind strength and direction. Thank you."
-Jim Raye
"As a local television meteorologist I find this information very useful and a welcome addition to the NOAA buoy reports. Much of the information I gather is passed onto the general public; while other information is used in producing forecasts."
-Meteorologist
I am at Bigelow Lab, and we are performing a survey of the Gulf of Maine, specifically around Penobscot Bay using GoMOOS moorings as our way-points. That is the reason for my visit this morning. The GoMOOS system is a very important part of the science being done in the Gulf of Maine!
Research Scientist
"Your site certainly fills a major gap in the available data for sea surface modeling. This research represents a fantastic evolution from a day where NOGAPS was king of a bunch of crap models. I am a meteorologist as well as an avid surfer...from both viewpoints the data that you are making available has quickly become an invaluable tool. Thanks."
-Research Scientist
"Keep up the great work. I use the data every day to determine whether or not our UNH group should go out and work offshore or not (and to determine what tasks can be accomplished in preparation). Anyhow, keep up the good work."
-Stanley Boduch, Researcher
"The data provided by GoMOOS is instrumental to understanding the marine ecosystem. Our project has specifically chosen this region because of the availability of subsurface oceanographic data."
-Research Scientist
"I'm a researcher looking for availability of research quality data."

"Please keep this information available to the public. It gives us islanders insight into ferry travel possibilities. Thank you."
-Island Traveler
"GoMOOS is a very important service and resource for those of us who live on the outer islands. Thank you."
-Island Traveler
"My home is located on Spruce Head Island and faces NE. In the winter months wind speed and direction are important as they determine if the shingles stay on the roof and which way the spruces will fall! In the summer I sail and it's always good to know beforehand what sail combination to hoist on a particular day."
-Island Traveler
"We are a boat yard located on the coast of Maine; out on an island (which is not supported by a ferry). We use our own 31' power boat to get employees back and forth to work. We like the ease of going online to check the wind forecast."

"During the warmer months we live on Matinicus Island. GoMOOS data allows a daily check on the conditions on the island, which is especially important as a way to maintain contact with the island during the winter months when we live in Pennsylvania. During the warmer months the wave reports are important in helping to make travel decisions when moving to and from the island. Hourly weather data from the three Midcoast buoys often provides a more accurate picture of island conditions than the more regional NOAA predictions. Please keep up the good work."
-Dave and Judy Sears, Educator
"My students use this web page as part of unit that studies the Gulf of Maine and its watershed the web page is slow when many students are using it at once, but GoMOOS provides great data and students feel privileged to be using the same data as scientists.
-Educator
